If I Had To Do A Room In One Color
Blue! It’s the first color that came to mind. And who doesn’t like blue?
Design Hack Central
Paint can fix almost anything! Have a piece of furniture you don’t like? Before getting rid of it, try a fresh coat of paint! Hate your kitchen cabs, but don’t want to completely start over? Paint them! It sounds so simple, but paint can be one of the most impactful ways to elevate your design.
DIY Advice
I think that people are capable of much more than they think they are. We just tiled a whole wall in our kitchen, and I was nervous because our tiling experience was limited to small backsplashes in the bathroom. In the end, it came out beautifully and I am so proud of what we accomplished. There is so much information to refer to, videos to watch and countless tutorials online! Where there’s a will, there’s a way! You can do it!
Choosing Paint Colors
My best advice that I give for choosing a paint color for your home is to ALWAYS take the paint swatches home with you so they can be examined in the space in which you are painting.
Everyone is always talking about light exposure and how paint colors drastically change from space to space, and there is a reason why people talk about those issues. They are true! Never pick your paint color in the store—always take it home and decide in the space in which you intend to paint.
Ways to Refresh a Space
This is one of my favorite things to do, and I do it often. My advice for refreshing a space is to first shop your own home before buying something new. Sometimes, when you clear a shelf and restyle it with things from another room, it can help you to see a space in a new way. Grab some books, a plant and something decorative from another room and you can achieve a whole new look!
Where I Source My Pieces
I’m kind of a mixed bag. I get my pieces from all over the place: thrift stores, garage sales, hand-me-downs from my mom and even big box stores. I like it this way, because I think it gives a space a more curated and collected feel.
Life Advice
My dad always says, “You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.” And I love this because it’s a good reminder not to take myself too seriously and that even if mistakes are made along the way, the end result can still be positive.
The 411: I’m a wife and a mom from the Pacific Northwest. I have a passion for DIY, thrifting and all things related to interior design. On any given day, you might find me with paint in my hair while chasing a toddler around the house.
