Any motto or quote that you live by?
“Don’t take yourself too seriously.”
5 things you need to throw a good party?
Alcohol, food, music, flowers and nice people.
Are there any design rules you follow?
I am emotionally moved by the color palettes found in nature. I believe that humans are naturally affected by the colors found in our natural world, so I look to the color schemes of nature to inspire my work. I am also excited by bold shapes and design that stands out—other than these ideas, I follow my eye and my intuition.
Why is color so important? What does it represent to you?
Colors move our hearts. We feel blue. We see red. Color is one of the most powerful tools a designer has to affect people’s feelings and passions.
How do you create a space that nurtures you at home and work?
I like to inhabit spaces that are thoughtfully designed, both for function and mood. A good designer creates an office space that encourages work and creativity. A kitchen should enhance not just cooking, but also the warm feeling of family and sharing. Each room should surprise people and make them feel like they are in a unique place because every person is special, and I want to help celebrate that. For inspiration, I am always looking at magazines, Instagram and other designers’ work.
Your favorite places you’ve traveled? Why?
Chile, of course. I am from there, so I am biased, but the colors, the people and the landscape are always an inspiration to me.
How do you see yourself in 10 years?
Right now, I am setting up my own company to sell bold maximalist home goods at an affordable price. I want to be able to help people get truly fresh, high-quality design in their homes for an affordable price. I hope that in 10 years I have helped a lot of people make their lives more beautiful.
Great life advice you’ve received?
My dad gave me the best advice when I was 15. It was specifically geared to me, so it might not make sense to a lot of people. He always thought I was smart and had potential but had an issue with finishing tasks, so he said that successful people are the ones that follow through and that if I was going to do anything interesting with my life I had to learn to take projects to the finish line.
